SOKOTO TO CONDUCT MASS WEDDING FOR 125 COUPLES

The Sokoto State Government said on Wednesday that it would conduct mass wedding for 125 couples on Jan. 24.

The Commissioner for Social Welfare, Alhaji
Zubairu Yari, said this in Sokoto at a pre-marriage sensitisation workshop for the potential couples.

Yari said the ceremony would be conducted on
Friday at the Government House, Sokoto, adding that the exercise would cost the government N30 million.

The Commissioner said that the state government would pay N20,000 dowry for each of the 125 would-be brides.

“Each of them will also be given a set of furniture, bed, mattress and other bedding.

Each of the eligible grooms would be given a take-off grant of N20,000," he said.

Yari also said that the couples would also be provided with sets of wedding clothes.

The commissioner said that the mass wedding
ceremony would be jointly presided over by Gov. Aliyu Wamakko and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III.

Yari, however, said that the state government
would not condone any act that would lead to
the premature break-up of the marriages.

“The state government will not tolerate any acts capable of scuttling the marriages.
“You must find ways of addressing all areas of
misunderstanding to ensure the successes of the marriages,” he said
